The Honorable Tiffany Sizemore is one of 3 women who will be honored with the Women of the Year Award.
Are you where you thought you would be, and how did you get there?
I am not where I thought I would be, but I know now that I’m exactly where I am supposed to be. I thought that I would still practice law and maybe run a nonprofit holistic community legal center. That was my goal at this point in my life. However, I got to this moment with a strong nudge from some great friends and held myself to the value of being the change I wanted to see in the world. Sometimes you must go where you’re sent, even when it’s terrifying.
What would you tell other women about overcoming obstacles?
The first thing I would say is that you are stronger than you ever dreamed you could be. I would also say that it’s okay to cry and scream; to be mad and vent; to be tired and rest. In fact, rest is imperative. But you have to get back up as soon as possible and put one foot in front of the other. Some days you will move slowly, and on others, you will take off running. But do what you can, every day. Small steps count too!
What role has the support of other women played in your success?
The support of other women has meant everything to my success. We have our own language and our own way of loving and supporting one another. At every moment in my life and career, I have been deeply grateful to other women for breathing life and energy into my spirit – starting with my mother and grandmother.
