Dr. Tammi McMillan Marshall is the director of the Teacher Diversification Program at Carlow University, working to diversify the teacher pipeline by eliminating barriers that prevent people of color from obtaining teacher certification. She is the author of the Children’s book series “Sunni Rae’s World.” She actively serves as a member of the Woodland Hills School Board, Carlow University Campus School Advisory Board, and the Cheyney University Alumni Association. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

This year our focus is on leadership and self-care. We asked our leadership honorees to tell us how they incorporate self-care into their busy life.

Response: Self-care is an essential part of being successful in life. To maintain a conducive work/home balance, she establishes boundaries. At 7 p.m., she shuts her professional life down. She focuses on spending time doing things that make her happy. She unapologetically takes long weekend trips once a month. She goes to the spa monthly, and if she sees something she likes, she buys it. Dr. McMillan Marshall surrounds herself with powerful women and is not afraid of therapy.

Dr. McMillan Marshall is the proud mother of three amazing sons, Thomas, Tearl, and Cruz, and is happily married to Gregory Marshall.
