Monica Lamar

Dr. Monica D. Lamar is the Assistant Superintendent of the Pittsburgh Public Schools system’s eighteen K-5 and K-8 schools. She served as the Pittsburgh Dilworth Pre-K to 5th-grade principal for fifteen years and has been a principal in the system for twenty years, showcasing service for twenty-eight years. Dr. Monica D. Lamar earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Slippery Rock University, a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, and her Education Doctoral Degree from Duquesne University School of Education. Her dissertation, completed as part of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program for Education Leaders (IDPEL), is titled “A School for Our Children: A School Successfully Closing the Student Achievement Gap.”

Dr. Lamar’s research interests include K-12 Leadership and Theory, Women’s Leadership, Education Policy, and Critical Race Theory. Dr. Lamar is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and served as the President of Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for the 2016–2017 term. During her tenure as the Chapter President, the volunteer organization was recognized by Pittsburgh City Council for the 19,008 hours of service to the community. She is also a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in the East Liberty part of Pittsburgh, led by Senior Pastor Dr. William H. Curtis. As a chartering member of the Pittsburgh Steel City Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction, she is a proven school and community leader who firmly believes, “Strong teams that are focused on a common goal will achieve success for the organization.”
