2024 Onyx Woman Leadership Awards Honoree Mikey Hood

Mikey Hood is a co-host on KDKA’s Talk Pittsburgh. She started her career at Kdka-CBS on the lifestyle morning show Pittsburgh Today Live.

She grew up in the East End of Pittsburgh and graduated from Taylor Allderdice. Mikey got her start in local daytime TV through a web show she created and produced called Pghspot.com.

She says, “I’ve always wanted to highlight people from my community. The feel-good stories, the stories of victory and success”.

Mikey has had a public presence in Pittsburgh for quite some time through her online show PghSpot, a platform she created to highlight the movers and shakers in the Burgh!

Mikey grew up in the East End of Pittsburgh and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School. Her desire to get into TV started as a kid when she would interview and produce pretend-commercials for all of her friends. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied Writing and Communications.

She is married to actor Georin Oliver and has a son named Logan. She also loves playing with her high-energy dog, a Labradoodle named Wilson. Her motto is to focus on the things you can change, not on what you can’t.

Since the event is taking place the week of Mother’s Day, we asked our honorees to share how their mom has impacted their success.

Mikey Hood: The Best Advice From Granny and Mommy

“Never give up. There’s always a means to an end,” is something my 97-year granny always tells me. She has been a wonderful influence on my life because I have seen her move in leadership and love her entire life and have tried my best to embody those same traits. I’ve watched her lose two sons, including my dad, best friends, and family members, and she has remained steadfast through it all.

On the other hand, my mom always has my back and never misses a show. She has taught me how to have great work ethic and to always show up. She has been a flight attendant with the same company since 1982 and has never missed a shift. They are both wonderful women to lean on, and I’m glad I have them around.
