This year, our theme is “And Still We Rise!” We asked our honorees to reflect on how they have risen above challenges—both professionally and personally. Their responses honor the obstacles they faced, the strength they discovered, and the determination that carried them forward.
“Throughout my journey, I have faced challenges that tested both my resilience and determination. Professionally, stepping into leadership roles during times of organizational change required me to adapt quickly and lead with confidence, even when uncertainty was high. I learned to embrace flexibility, communicate transparently, and inspire my team to stay focused on shared goals. These experiences strengthened my ability to remain calm under pressure and make decisions that balance both people and performance. Personally, I have navigated obstacles that demanded perseverance and self-belief. There were moments when balancing career growth with family responsibilities felt overwhelming, but I refused to let those challenges define me. Instead, I leaned on time management, prioritization, and a growth mindset. Each hurdle became an opportunity to prove that persistence and optimism can turn setbacks into stepping stones. Through these experiences, I discovered the power of resilience and the importance of determination. Rising above challenges taught me that strength is not just about enduring difficulties—it’s about learning, adapting, and moving forward with purpose. These lessons continue to guide me as I strive to lead with integrity and inspire others to overcome their own obstacles.”
Jamita Browne-Poston
Branch Manager, Citizens Bank
Jamita Browne-Poston is a seasoned banking professional who currently serves as Branch Manager at Citizens Bank’s East Liberty location. With a career spanning decades in retail banking, Jamita began her journey in the late 1980s as a teller and has grown into a respected leader known for her commitment to excellence and community impact.
Her passion for helping people and serving the community has guided her throughout her career. Jamita has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations and is currently a dedicated committee member for the Kelly Strayhorn Theater. She is deeply committed to volunteerism, contributing more than 6,000 hours this year alone to causes ranging from financial literacy and Junior Achievement to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and veteran support initiatives.
Jamita’s leadership and dedication have earned her numerous accolades, including Citizens Bank’s highest honor—the CREDO Award—and the Retail Leadership Award for Excellence in Bringing Our Culture to Life, which she received two years in a row. She was also recently recognized for her contributions to the Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha MLK Scholarship Brunch. Her influence extends beyond banking; she has participated in decision-making efforts supporting homeownership, the arts, and community parks and recreation, and proudly serves as a Community Ambassador for Citizens Bank.
Outside of her professional life, Jamita is a proud wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her family is her foundation, and her faith is her guiding principle—she lives by the scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
