And Still We Rise!
This year, our theme is “And Still We Rise!” We asked our honorees to reflect on how they have risen above challenges—both professionally and personally. Their responses honor the obstacles they faced, the strength they discovered, and the determination that carried them forward.
“To truly rise amidst personal or business challenges, I believe in embracing a dynamic, three-pronged approach: connection, purpose, and adaptability.First, connection. Challenges, whether personal or professional, can often feel isolating. I lean heavily on my network—mentors, colleagues, friends, and family. Sharing perspectives, brainstorming solutions, and receiving encouragement provide an essential foundation of resilience. It’s in these moments of vulnerability and shared strength that innovative solutions often emerge, and I remember that I’m not navigating difficult terrain alone. Second, purpose. My deepest professional challenges are consistently overcome when I re-center on why I do this work. My unwavering commitment to ensuring access to healthcare for all and fostering thriving communities serves as an anchor. When obstacles seem insurmountable, reconnecting with this core mission provides clarity, renewed motivation, and the courage to push through. It reminds me that every struggle is an opportunity to strengthen my impact.
Finally, adaptability. The world is constantly evolving, and rigid approaches are rarely successful in overcoming significant hurdles. I cultivate a mindset of continuous learning, remain open to new ideas and unconventional strategies, and even admit when a current path isn’t working. This flexibility allows for pivots, adjustments, and the ability to find creative pathways forward—transforming challenges into stepping stones for growth and greater effectiveness.By connecting, staying purpose-driven, and remaining adaptable, we don’t just rise; we emerge stronger, wiser, and more impactful.”
