Dr. Katherine KimesThe leading killer of our children.  A brain injury occurs every 20 seconds; 1.7 million Americans sustain a brain injury annually, while there is an estimated 5.8 million living with the debilitating effects of injury. Therefore, it is important to disseminate knowledge in the area of brain injury. Brain injury does not discriminate. Brain injury does not care what race religion, gender, age or economic background you come from. It’s an equal opportunity disabler.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014) cites Traumatic Brain Injury as the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults. It is most likely to occur in children aged 0 to 4 years, adolescents aged 15 to 19 years, and adults aged 65 years and older. Unfortunately, education services and supports are limited or nonexistent in the realm of public education.
