Evolving Leader: Tammy T. Thompson Gives Advice on Following Your Dreams

Tammy T. Thompson – T3 Consulting/T3 Media, Inc.

How many years have you been in your industry?

I have been working with women and families in poverty in some capacity for over 15 years.

What has been your greatest inspiration?

My greatest inspiration has actually been the women that I’ve worked with over the years who are fighting the grasp of poverty and against all odds, and continue to fight.  They inspire me to keep fighting every day; even on the days that I want to give up.

What advice would you give to anyone about following their dreams?

I advise anyone who has dreams to do the work and to quiet that little voice in their head that’s telling them to quit.  I would advise them to do whatever is necessary to change those negative, internal whispers into loud affirmations and positive thoughts.  There will be enough external negativity, so conquer that inner voice.

What is the biggest career or business mistake that you have ever made?

The biggest mistake I’ve made in my career was staying in a toxic work environment for too long.

What would you tell your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to be kinder to myself.  To take the time to find out what I like, want and need opposed to adapting to what I think others like, want and need.

When did you first become aware of your purpose?

I initially became aware of my purpose when I was working as a credit and housing counselor and kept hearing the same stories of struggle and desperation over and over and their stories were my story.  I realized that the women I was working with were me and I was them and I wanted to do the work to help us overcome our trauma and get to a peaceful place and financial security.
