Janie Payne is a senior human resources and administrative professional with over twenty years’ experience. She has worked in both unionized and non-unionized environments. Early in her career, while working for Bell Atlantic/Verizon Communications, she learned the significance of involving people in the decision-making process about the work they perform. Her leadership philosophy is that the creativity and initiative that employees bring to their work is heighted when they become involved and engaged in helping to shape the direction of the organization. This is a principle she uses when exercising her responsibilities as a leader. With more than two decades in Strategic Human Resources Management, Administration, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), and Change Management, she has developed a gift of leading organizations in aligning their HR goals with business strategy.

Janie is driven by taking on tough challenges, and gravitates towards opportunities to utilize creative ideas, strategies, and approaches to develop sustainable change across sectors, including for-profit, government, and not-for-profit domestic and international organizations. She has a proven track record of creating inclusive workplace cultures, where everyone can thrive and succeed. Forward-thinking and results-oriented with a people-centric approach, her passion is engaging with colleagues directly to solve complex problems and serving as a catalyst for positive change and business transformation.

Janie is currently the Vice President of Administration for Equal Justice Works, an organization dedicated to mobilizing passionate public service leaders. She leads the organization in the strategic development and execution of Human Resources, Information Technology, Logistics Management and Financial Operations management. She is responsible for the development and implementation of the organizations Diversity Equity and Inclusion strategy. Janie received a Master of Arts in Organizational Development from American University. She is a graduate of the Maryland Equity and Inclusion Leadership Program. Janie holds numerous professional development certificates in Human Resources Management and Change Management and is a trained mediator and Certified Professional Coach. She is the former Chair of the board of the NTL Institute, a graduate of Leadership America, former member of the Humentum Human Resources Steering Committee, member of The Society for Human Resource Management, and Treasurer for the Special Education Council Advisory Committee for Prince Georges County.   Janie has received numerous awards, including the CEO Award and Manager of the Year from Global Communities, Innovative CHRO Award from the Office of Personnel Management, and she was featured on the cover of Human Resources Executive Magazine for implementing innovative HR practices. She has been recognized by the Department of Labor for her work in creating team-based systems and structures for a fortune 50 telecommunications company.

  1. I am so blessed to have Janie Payne as a role model and friend. There are people in this world who change the room as soon as they walk in, who shine a light so bright nothing can tarnish their brilliance, who would walk through the fire to help you without being asked. Janie is that type of extraordinary person. Over the last 25 years I have witnessed her confront injustice and stand up for what’s right regardless of personal cost. Janie is someone to watch and I’m lucky to have a back stage pass!!
