La’Tasha has called Pittsburgh home for the last 15 years and resides in Morningside. Like many, she came to Pittsburgh to pursue higher education and she never left. La’Tasha earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University.

“Pittsburgh has changed my life and to this day, it affirms for me that anything is possible. This is why I am answering the call to run for the office of Pittsburgh City Council Member representing District 7,” says Mayes. District 7 includes Morningside, Highland Park, Stanton Heights, Lawrenceville, Strip District, Friendship, Bloomfield and Polish Hill.

La’Tasha has a track record of advancing social justice and breaking barriers to push Pittsburgh to be the best it can possibly be. “I look back at my time in Pittsburgh and one thing remains clear – each and every day, I wake up inspired with the people on my mind. After speaking with the voters and residents of District 7, they want affordable, sustainable and healthy communities.”

While in Pittsburgh, La’Tasha had the great opportunity to become a community organizer, policy advocate and non-profit leader. La’Tasha not only founded New Voices Pittsburgh but she also has professional experience in county and state government serving constituents. La’Tasha was the first Vice Chair of the inaugural Allegheny County Human Relations Commission, a Leadership Committee Member for Women for a Healthy Environment and President of the Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh.

La’Tasha has received numerous honors for her work such as the Pittsburgh Pirates Community Champion Award, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Tribute to Women Young Leaders Award and Pitt Business College of Business Administration Outstanding Alumni Award.
