When are you going to get a real job?
You must have all the time in the world.
You are wasting your degree.
I could go on and on with more, but you get the idea. I started off as a professional dancer, then went on to get a masters degree in education. I enjoyed 5 amazing years as an elementary educator at one of the top charter schools in the country. After assisting my church with opening a day care center, I found myself unemployed and pregnant with baby #2…
What was one of the darkest moments of my life turned out to be one of my biggest blessings that led me on the path to my divine destiny. I wrote a blog post titled “LEAVE MY DAUGHTER’S HAIR ALONE.” That life-altering moment led me to becoming executive editor of an online news magazine, professional writer/blogger and creator/host of my own podcast, yet some people seem to think I’m not doing a thing but eating Bon Bons (Cookie dough ice cream would be my desert of choice if I had the time to eat it!) with my feet propped up on the couch as my little munchkins go wild. All I can do is LOL!
I am working harder now than I have EVER worked in my entire life, and I’ve had a job since the 6th grade! When you are a work-from-home mom, your job NEVER stops! In between diaper changes, I am editing people’s writing, recording a show, doing laundry and cleaning bottles; and that’s just ONE example of what I could be doing at any given moment!
I’m human so I would be lying to you if I said that some of the smart remarks and unwanted opinions and questions didn’t bother me. Indeed, they do sting, but I’m so over it! Let me tell you why:
I am the happiest I’ve ever been! I know I am doing the work that God has placed me on this earth to do. Also, what I am doing is what works best for our family. My husband and I have come to a mutual agreement and family plan, and this is the lifestyle and career choice for me that makes us all happy in the end. So what other people think or what they have to say is simply irrelevant.
So my message to you, moms, is be comfortable in your own skin and be confident in the choices you and your family make. No one can be you and no one knows your family’s needs better than you so let what people say go through one ear and right out the other. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, work-from-home mom or a working mom, you are THE mom to your children and no one else. So keep doing what works for you and your family, and do it with a smile on that beautiful face of yours! <3
